By using Canberra Taxis & Maxis (“we”, “us”, “our”) via phone, website or app. You agree to these Terms & Conditions. Please read carefully before booking.

  1. Service Overview

We provide taxi and maxi taxi transportation services throughout Canberra and surrounding ACT regions. Bookings are accepted via phone, website or app. We coordinate with drivers to fulfil bookings.

  1. Eligibility

Users must be 18 years or older. Minors under 18 must travel with an adult. You agree to provide accurate information when creating accounts and booking trips.

  1. Bookings and Cancellations
    Bookings can be made via phone, website, or app. You will receive a confirmation with driver details.

    Cancellation Policy:
    Cancellations made before driver assignment are free of charge. Late cancellations or no-shows may result in booking restrictions.

    Deposits and Service Coverage:
    Scheduled or night-time trips may require a refundable deposit (e.g., 50%). In case a Canberra Taxis & Maxis vehicle is not available in your area, we may use our other transport booking service, Capital Cabs (Rideshare Service), to ensure your booking is covered and you are not left waiting.
    In such cases, booking details will be provided via the Capital Cabs dispatch system, and rideshare rules will apply to that trip to maintain our high standard of service.

    Fair Use Policy:
    The Fair Use Policy applies to all rides booked through our services. Any attempt to make fake or misleading bookings, book rides without the genuine intention of using the service, or interfere with our business operations in any way will be treated as a serious violation. Such actions may result in booking restrictions, service suspension, and legal action being initiated against the responsible party.

  1. Fares & Payment

Fares are calculated via ACT regulated metered rates under the Road Transport (Public Passenger Services) Determination, including any applicable surcharges. Estimated fares may be provided before travel but are subject to traffic, route or airport fees. Payments can be made by cash, credit/debit, or approved third-party methods. Cabcharge payments must be processed using in vehicle terminals connected to the taximeter. Tolls, extra passengers, or luggage surcharges are payable by the rider.

  1. Driver & Rider Conduct

All drivers are accredited under ACT ‘T’ licence conditions, police checked and trained to meet ACT service standards. We comply with discrimination laws and give priority access for wheelchair-accessible taxi bookings. Drivers may refuse service for safety, intoxication, or inappropriate behaviour. Likewise, riders must behave respectfully, damage caused by riders may incur charges.

Lost property procedures are in place in alignment with service provider standards.

  1. Liability & Indemnity

We act only as a facilitator of transport services. We are not liable for injury, damage or loss arising from use of the service beyond legal minimums.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, riders indemnify Canberra Taxis & Maxis, its affiliates, agents, and drivers for any claims arising from misuse or violations.

  1. Service Standards & Regulatory Compliance

We adhere to the ACT minimum service standards: vehicle safety, taximeter calibration, response times and record keeping for at least two years. Record retention includes time vehicles were available, repairs, compliance checks and taximeter calibration logs.

  1. Accessibility & Subsidy Schemes

We participate in the ACT Taxi Subsidy Scheme (TSS), providing discounted travel for eligible ACT residents with severe mobility restrictions. Our wheelchair‑accessible vehicles prioritise users with disability and comply with relevant accessibility requirements.

  1. Privacy & Communications

We may contact you regarding trip updates, service promotions (only with your consent), or account issues. You can opt out of marketing communications at any time. Call recordings, GPS tracking, or camera footage may be used for quality assurance, safety and dispute resolution.

  1. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time changes take effect when posted. Continued use after updates constitutes acceptance.

All unresolved disputes are governed under ACT law, and any court proceedings must be in the ACT.
